Lexington, Massachusetts, is a town in Middlesex County. Its land was settled during the early 1640s. It’s where the Battle of Lexington and Concord took place, an event that started the American Revolutionary War. Before it became an incorporated community in 1713, it was a part of Cambridge. Today Lexington has a population of over 33,000 residents. About eighty percent of adults here hold a college credential, making this a highly-educated community.
Lexington truly lives up to its nickname as the “Birthplace of American Liberty.” It’s filled with several landmarks that honor the American Revolution like the Minuteman Statue and the Old Belfry. Buckman Tavern is the town’s oldest tavern. (It was built between 1704-1710.) The tavern offers guided tours from spring to fall. If you enjoy art, consider stopping by the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society. The facility showcases exhibits created by local artists. It also provides workshops and classes. The Minuteman Bikeway is about eleven miles long, starting from Cambridge and ending in Bedford. Many locals use the bikeway for cycling, jogging, and walking. You and your family will enjoy the Lexington Community Center. This place has fitness rooms, billiards, public Wi-Fi access, family and youth programs, and more. The Old Reservoir contains a pond with a beach. It’s open every day of the week from June to August. Schools in Lexington include six public elementary schools, two public middle schools, two public high schools, and three private schools.
